The Birth of Goddess Lakshmi 

The Hindu faith and scriptures describe Mata Lakshmi as the goddess of wealth. It is stated that on the new moon day of Kartik month, Maa Lakshmi was born while churning the ocean (known as Samudra Manthan). Because of this, Goddess Lakshmi’s birthday is commemorated on the day of Diwali, and she is revered.

Lord Vishnu saved Mata Lakshmi

On the day of Diwali, the Vamana avatar of Lord Vishnu (Lord Vishnu’s fifth incarnation) rescued Mata Lakshmi from King Bali’s clutches. This tale is well-known in Hindu mythology tale and is one of the reasons why people reverently worship Goddess Lakshmi.

Lord Krishna killed Narakasura 

According to legends, the demon king Narakasura was oppressing the gods residing on the three planets by attacking them. Lord Shri Krishna defeated him in a two-day battle while also releasing 16,000 of his captive ladies. As the battle finally came to an end on Diwali, the day is also referred to as Narak Chaturdashi and marks the celebration of this victory.

Pandavas came back

According to the Hindu epic the Mahabharata, the Pandavas returned from exile on the day of Kartik Amavasya. People lit diyas to welcome their return as they rejoiced in their presence.

Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya.

The second Hindu epic, Ramayana, tells that Lord Rama, Sita, and his brother Lakshmana returned to Ayodhya on the new moon day of the Kartik month after defeating the demon king of Lanka, i.e., Ravana. The entry of Lord Shri Ram, Mata Sita, and Lakshman Ji was greeted by the light of diyas, and the entire city of Ayodhya was in amazement. So even today, people celebrate this day to rejoice in Lord Shri Ram’s victory and celebrate his return to his kingdom.
